The 5244 joint research unit focuses on various biological systems in a state of interaction which involve several species of invertebrates: invertebrates of medical or veterinary interest (gastropod molluscs), of aquacultural interest (bivalve molluscs) or of ecological interest (coral).

The IHPE project is one of the partners of the CeMEB  labex.

It focuses on developing integrative approaches which take the environmental parameters which have a bearing on these interactions into account, doing so on a range of different scales: from the smallest molecular mechanisms to population or even evolutionary levels of integration. The research is therefore conducted at the interface between functional biology and the biology of populations, ecology and evolution. In order to meet the ambitious targets that we have set ourselves, over the last 10 years or so we have acquired a broad range of expertise in areas such as environmental genomics (“omic” methods), ecology and bioinformatics, as well as epigenetics. Our expertise is also underpinned by cutting-edge technology platforms at both our sites in Montpellier and Perpignan. For example, the resources that we have recently acquired for the Perpignan BIO-ENVIRONMENT platform which is involved in high throughput sequencing data. These technological, human and experimental resources are used to process large sets of (meta)genomic and transcriptomic data both on hosts and on their associated microorganisms or pathogens. This way, these interactions can be examined globally and exhaustively… both in controlled environments and in natural populations.
