What is Erasmus + European Mobility in Higher Education?

The Erasmus + programme (2014-2020), funded by the European Commission, contributes to the implementation of a European Higher Education Area by pursuing several objectives including:

  • improving the quality and strengthening the European dimension of higher education
  • increasing the mobility of students, teachers and academic staff
  • the strengthening of multilateral cooperation
  • transparency and recognition of qualifications and diplomas acquired.
It promotes mobility actions within Higher Education Institutions in the countries of the European Economic Area that are holders of the Erasmus+ Charter, for students (periods of study or internship), as well as all academic and administrative staff of Higher Education Institutions.

How to apply?

If you wish to come to the UPVD within the framework of the Erasmus+ exchange programme, you must first contact the International Relations Department of your university. It will tell you whether the University of Perpignan Via Domitia has signed a bilateral agreement in your discipline, as well as the procedure which will explain how to apply to come to and spend time at our institution.

On your arrival at the UPVD

You must report to the International Relations Service - Erasmus Office.

At the beginning of each semester, two meetings are organized by the University Service of International Relations to facilitate your administrative procedures as well as your integration into student life:

  • An "information meeting", to help you with your administrative and educational procedures: registration and membership of student mutual insurance companies for students without social security cover. In order to process your final registration you will have to complete a file and provide the following documents: Photocopy of your passport or identity card, Attestation of your civil liability for the current academic year (translated into French or English), Proof of your health insurance: Photocopy of the European Health Insurance Card or a certificate from any other organisation certifying social security coverage (translated into French or English), Your acceptance letter from the University of Perpignan Via Domitia, 2 passport size photos, 2 stamps (normal European rate), 1 stamped envelope with your personal address (in your home country) and 1 stamped envelope with the address of your home university
  • A "welcome meeting", to introduce you to the university, its student services and its environment, in the presence of: the Vice-President in charge of international relations, the Erasmus coordinators of each component and the student services (the University Service of Physical and Sports Activities, preventive medicine, the communication and culture service, Language Centre and FLE courses etc).

The Erasmus+ coordinators will be on duty to validate your study contract and to make any changes to it. They will also look at the exam registration form given at the beginning of the semester.

The UPVD offers all incoming students and staff, within the framework of a mobility program, 20 hours per semester of linguistic, pedagogical and cultural training in French as a Foreign Language, which can account for 2 ECTS for one semester, or 4 ECTS for the academic year. These free courses are organised by the French as a Foreign Language Department of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. If you wish to improve your language skills, you also have the possibility of taking additional courses in self-study, whether introductory or refresher courses, in French (or in other languages) at the Language Centre's language laboratory.

At the end of your stay

The SRI Erasmus Office will send you and your home university your transcript and diploma supplement, which guarantees the academic recognition of your study period. The results will be recognised for the award of the diploma from your home university, if you have fulfilled the requirements set out in your study contract.
French universities, including the University of Perpignan, have a rating system based on 20 points. The system of equivalence of notation is presented in the Erasmus+ bilateral contract signed between the University of Perpignan and each partner university.
